Dear Neighbors,

Warm wishes for a happy spring! As the green foliage wakens up, our parks and preserves are looking prettier everyday!

In honor of nature and it’s preservation, Cranbury Township’s recycling efforts were awarded a $109,556 grant from the state! A big thank you to the champions of recycling, our DPW and Environmental Commission and all residents and businesses who participate!

I am always elated to share memorable achievements of our local youths and wanted to extend congratulations to PHS junior and Cranbury resident, Aishwarya Vedulla. She is the 2024 New Jersey Affiliate winner of the Aspirations in Computing award from the National Center for Women and Informational Technology, sponsored by Amazon, Apple, Google, and DoD STEM. She will be honored at a ceremony at Kean University in April. Additionally, congratulations to PHS senior Larry He, who recently won the Boys State Championship in Fencing, more specifically using the Epee. Last year he finished 2nd and the year before that he again finished 1st.

Members of the TC attended the annual Firehouse and First Aid Squad Banquet earlier this month, where heroes of Cranbury enjoyed a night of celebration and recognition. Awards were issued for top responders and years of service. Of note, the longest serving member of the Firehouse was George Epp, with 65 years, and the longest serving member on the First Aid Squad was Gene McDermott, with 45 years. We thank all the members of our Rescue Services for their time and efforts towards keeping Cranbury, and the surrounding towns, safe!

We had a robust Township Committee meeting last night, and many of the events mentioned are listed in the township events below. The process for establishing a new Parks and Recreation Committee commenced last night with the first reading of the ordinances to essentially dissolve the current Parks Commission and Board of Recreation. Interest to merge these commissions was expressed by its members, as well as the TC, and will improve efficiency and reduce issues with achieving quorum! Members of the public are encouraged to sign-up to volunteer for the new Parks and Recreation Committee online if they’d like to serve. All our boards and commissions function on the efforts of dedicated volunteers and we thank each and every one of you!

During public comment, the TC heard from several residents who were deeply concerned about speeding and road safety on Station Road. Their testimony was moving and the traffic subcommittee will look into other solutions for traffic calming. Members of our police force continue to take speeding and road safety very seriously. This year they have deployed additional mobile speed signs and message boards and their presence on the roads is very visible. Chief Owen’s report last night reflected this extra effort, with almost double the stops of speeding vehicles in March of this year than last year. We can all benefit from slowing down when driving on our local roads.
