The Board's mission is to support New Jersey State Statutes (NJSA 26:3-1 et.seq.) and promote good public health and prevent disease through recommendations and programs that maintain the health, safety and well-being of Cranbury Township residents.

The general powers and duties of the Board are described in the New Jersey State Statutes (N.J.S.A. 26:3-1). The following areas of responsibility are delegated to the Board of Health: 1) protecting the local water supply, (i.e. approving wells and septic systems), 2) licensing and regulating sanitary conditions of restaurants, boarding houses, day care centers and hotels, 3) promoting health standards in housing, 4) controlling and regulating sanitary practices, specifically garbage and waste control, 5) monitoring and regulating the safety and quality of food, 6) investigating and abating nuisances such as noise, odors, weeds, etc. In addition to these duties, the Board develops, monitors, enforces, reviews, and recommends local health policies and adopts ordinances.

The Cranbury Township Board of Health was established in 1963. It is comprised of five members (three-year term) appointed by the Township Committee. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term of office so vacated.
