Mayor's Update - April 9, 2024

23-A North Main Street  •  Cranbury, NJ 08512

Dear Friends and Neighbor,

Nature has certainly kept us on our toes these past 2 weeks. Torrential rains and damaging winds dropped large branches and whole trees in some areas, and it created flooding in others. Hats off to our DPW for keeping our roadways and public spaces clear and safe from debris!

Shortly after the storms, NJ experienced a historic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8. Although it rattled many of us, thankfully, it didn’t cause us harm. Our local consignment store, Crow and Teapot hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony over the weekend and Cranbury wishes them much success.

On Monday afternoon, we were all mesmerized by the total solar eclipse. Many residents in town gathered around the library for a viewing of the eclipse. The Cranbury Public Library distributed special solar eclipse viewing glasses and they offered snacks such as juice and moon pies!

On the community front, I wanted to wish our Muslim community a very warm and Happy Eid-Al-Fitr, which is the celebration marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Additionally, I wish those celebrating, a Happy Gudi Padwa, which is a spring festival marking the start of the lunisolar new year for some Hindus.

At last night’s TC meeting, we finalized the dissolution of our previous Parks Commission and Board of Recreation, and approved the new Parks and Recreation Commission. New members will be appointed at our next meeting. Additionally, I announced that Cranbury was named  “Healthy Town up and coming and Healthy Town to Watch designee” through it’s work on the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign. Street signs through out town are also getting a facelift and the project should be completed soon.

Cranbury School has started its construction project and our community has been patient and great at managing the new traffic flow patterns in the parking lot. There are lots of township activities scheduled in these next few weeks and I hope to see you at some of them!
