Mayor's Update - April 23, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Warm greetings to our residents observing the Jewish Holiday of Passover across the next few days and Happy Easter to those who celebrated earlier in this month and those who will be celebrating in early May. April is also Autism Awareness month and during this month we recognize Earth Day and Arbor Day.
At our TC meeting last night we announced the names of the pioneer members of the new Parks and Recreation Commission and we read proclamations in honor of National Library Week, Arbor Day and the festival of Holi. We also approved a Girl Scout Silver project in the
Cranbury Brook Preserve. The Girl Scouts plan to build a Monarch Butterfly Waystation where the butterflies will find a place to rest or reproduce during their migration, and they plan on updating the kiosk in the preserve. TC members additionally reported on another successful stream clean up event over the weekend as well as an amazing Historic Tour of Cranbury sponsored by Preservation New Jersey, CHPS and HPC.
During our public comment, we heard from residents on Station Road regarding their concerns with speeding on their road. Statistics from our police department again show almost double the number of traffic stops for speeding in 2024 than 2023. We encourage everyone to observe traffic speed posted, safe road behavior and give themselves ample time when traveling to
avoid rushing and speeding.
Our Police department graciously prepared a memo with safety tips to minimize burglary and unwanted entry. See below

As the weather becomes warmer and nicer, we would like to remind you of ways to protect yourselves from warm weather crimes and scams. Be aware of home improvements scams. If you did not solicit the contractor or salesman who shows up at your door unannounced, do not do business with that person. Cranbury Township ordinance #  113-1 requires anyone Peddling or Soliciting door to door to first obtain a license from Town Hall. This time of year we see an influx of solicitor complaints for solar panels, home improvements, and ways to make your power bill decrease among many others. If anyone knocks on your door to solicit business, never let them into your home, never provide any personal information or credit card or banking information. Please call the Cranbury Police non-emergency line 609-395-0031. Our officers will respond to the area and speak with the subjects soliciting. This time of year brings on driveway sealing and repair scams. They typically knock on your door, tell you they are working in the area and have extra supplies that they are willing to discount a job. These generally tend to be a scam and the work is unacceptable. Our area as well as the state are experiencing an uptick residential burglaries and motor vehicle theft. Always keep your home's doors and windows locked when you go to bed or leave your house, even if you are leaving for a short period. Secure all lawn and gardening equipment in your garage or a storage shed, and keep your garage doors closed at all times (even when you're doing work around the house). Put all ladders and other tools back into a secure storage area after you use them. Always remember to close your car windows, take any valuables out of your car, and lock your doors every time you exit your vehicle, even if your vehicle is parked in your driveway. Get to know your neighbors. Let a trusted neighbor know if you are planning to travel. Neighbors who know each other look out for each other. Cranbury Police Department offers a Vacant Home Check when you will be away from your home. To sign up go to https://www.cranburytownship.org/police/webforms/vacant-house-request.
