Village Park

Location

Village Park is located in the village center along the north shore of Brainerd Lake. It lies between Maplewood Avenue and U.S. Route 130. The main entrance is on Maplewood Avenue across from the intersection of Maplewood and Westminster Place. The park is visible from the Brainerd Dam on Main Street, looking to the east. Map.

Directions/Parking

From North Main Street, turn onto Westminster Place and proceed across Maplewood Avenue into the main entrance of the park. There are walking entrances between 10 and 14 Maplewood Avenue and also from Bennett Place, and there are three parking areas in the park: one for the Little League baseball field, one for the playground and gazebo picnic area, and one by the lakeshore.

The park is 19 acres, including 750 feet of lakefront.

Features

This active recreational park contains one regulation Little League baseball field, a softball field and a t-ball/minors baseball field.  There are two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a playground including a play structure for older children, a play structure for younger children and swing sets and a pavilion with tables, benches and charcoal grills. There are also picnic tables with additional charcoal grills, a gazebo, a bike/walking trail, a rain garden, and a small dock with access to the lake. “Dirt Mountain” provides a hill for sledding and dirt biking. Electric outlets are locked in the pavilion and a key may be obtained from the Township Clerk. Electric outlets are available in the gazebo. 

Portable restrooms are available in the playground parking area and next to the Little League fields.

Reservations

Permits and fees are required for groups to use the pavilion, gazebo, and picnic groves and sports fields. The Cranbury Plainsboro Little League has priority use of the large Little League baseball field (Zanghi Field) and priority is given to the township Recreation department and CPLL for the t-ball/minors field (Schanck Field).

Description/History

Village Park land was purchased in two transactions, one in 1964 and a second in 1967. The land was first used as a nursery to replace lost village trees, with approximately 2000 seedlings planted and later transplanted around the township. Today, the park offers multiple uses for the community. The gazebo was funded by Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society in 1976 to commemorate the United States Bicentennial and was dedicated on July 4, 1979. The pavilion was built by the Cranbury Lions Club.  Village Park is the main venue for the Independence Day fireworks display and celebration. More.
