Cranbury School will present Seussical Jr., a musical production based on various works of Dr. Seuss, on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

As a community service, the middle school cast of Seussical Jr. invites all senior citizens from the community to attend their dress rehearsal for free on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. Toddlers and their parents are also welcome to attend this performance.  The sixth grade class will also provide free refreshments during this night of community service.

All performances will take place at the Cranbury School Auditorium, 23 North Main Street, Cranbury. Tickets to the Friday and Saturday evening performances can be purchased for $6 for adults or $4 for students/children. Ticket sales support the eighth grade activities as well as the school’s student activity fund, which provides financial assistance to families.
Nearly 100 sixth through eighth grade students of the Cranbury School make up the cast and crew of the play.  Besides the actors who will sing and dance to delight the audience, the performance is supported by students assisting in lighting, make up, sound, props and stage management.

In the musical, Seussical Jr. brings to life some of the most memorable Dr. Seuss characters including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, the lazy bird Mayzie and the Whos down in Whoville.
The Seussical Jr. story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge—not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes you laugh and cry.
