WORK SESSION:

Cranbury Senior Community Center

            Room Improvements/Furnishings:

Kristen advised that Jack Coughlin, Acting Township Administrator, assured that the following room improvements would be completed by mid-August:

·         Install cable in the far front corner of the room.

·         Install railing for the stage area.

·         Paint the ramp and floor area with non-slip textured paint.

·         Clean and/or replace the discolored pipe.

It was confirmed that a 9-1-1 cell phone will be in the room.

A picture of the chair that Rosemary found at Raymour and Flanigan was circulated.  Since some members did not approve of the chair, Phyllis agreed to speak with Ginny Swanigan to find out where the upholstered chairs in the library were purchased.  Phyllis will email the information so an email vote can be taken on the chairs.

A sample of the stacking chair was available.  A motion was made by Jay; seconded by Howard; to purchase 27 more chairs.  After some discussion which questioned the warranty on the chair, an amended motion was made by Phyllis; seconded by Howard; all in favor, to purchase 27 more chairs based on acceptable warranty information.

A motion was made by Phyllis; seconded by Howard, all in favor, for Kristen to shop for and purchase room darkening window shades and have Public Works install.

Kristen provided information on cork board for the wall where plywood is covering mirrors.  Marie advised that she has Homosote in her home, which is a type of corkboard.  A motion was made by Phyllis; seconded by Howard; all in favor, for Kristen to look into Homosote and, if not feasible, to purchase cork on duracore, and have Public Works install.

            Opening Program:

Howard has an entertainment program lined up for opening day.

Howard will contact the Lions Club about the 9/15 opening.

Jean will contact SuperFresh in Plainsboro to see if they will donate a cake.

Marie will contact Dunkin Donuts to see if they will donate coffee.  If they will not, Starbucks will be asked.  If neither will donate, Rosemary volunteered to make the coffee.

Invitations:

Rosemary will ask Wayne Wittman if the Township Committee or Human Services should be responsible for inviting people to the opening.  If Human Services is responsible, the Township Committee should advise who from the County should be invited.

An announcement should be sent to senior agencies and be put on the Township’s website.

By August 1st, Rosemary will prepare a list of people to invite and Howard will prepare a list of those who should receive announcements.

Publicity:

A Press Release should be sent to the Cranbury Press and local newspapers.  Howard will prepare a list of who should receive press releases.

The Cranbury Press should be asked to cover the opening.

The Township Committee will be asked to declare September 15th “Senior Citizen Day”.

A postcard should be prepared for Cranbury Day with opening information.

August Meeting

With the opening of the Senior Community Center scheduled for September 15th, an August meeting must be held.  Some members requested that Wayne Wittman be available to attend the meeting.  Kristen will check with Wayne for an evening meeting date during the week of August 13th.  If Wayne is not available, the meeting will be scheduled for August 14th at 1pm.
