HUMAN SERVICES BOARD
CRANBURY, NEW JERSEY
MIDDLESEX COUNTY
TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING
The regular meeting of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board was held in Town Hall on January 16, 2007, at 1:00 p.m.
CALL TO ORDER
With a quorum present, Rosemary Seghatoleslami, Chairwoman of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board, called the meeting to order and acted as the Chairwoman thereof, and Kristen H. Hamilton acted as Recording Secretary of the meeting.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE
John Ritter, Marie Dey, Phyllis Bialor, Joe Colombo, Warren Perrine, Jay Hansen, Howard Zogott and Rosemary Seghatoleslami.
NON-MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE
Betty Conover.
MINUTES
The minutes of the December 13, 2006, meeting were reviewed and approved.
WORK SESSION
Cranbury Senior Community Center – John reported that the following was discussed at the meeting held with Tom Witt:
· $20.000.00 has been received from Middlesex County.
· It was suggested that sanded paint with stripping be installed on the ramp and bathroom floor.
· No children’s programs will be allowed in the room.
· No other groups may use the room during scheduled hours.
· Other people may use the room in the evening if no other space is available.
· Someone from the Township will unlock and lock the room daily.
A tentative list of furnishings to be purchased for the room is:
· 6 – 8 sturdy tables (card table size-possibly folding)
· Chairs (some with arms)
· 4 easy chairs
· Bookcases
· Coffee table
· Locking file cabinet
· Storage cabinet
· Coat rack
Howard provided a list of items that the Library will provide; specifically, a large print subscription to the “New York Times”, large print paperback books from various sources, at least one program per year and a rack for brochures from AARP, etc.
It was decided that the hours the Senior Center should be open are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
A grand opening for the Senior Center is tentatively scheduled for May 19, 2007. A schedule of events needs to be prepared for the entire year to have available at the opening. Howard will prepare a draft of programs for the February meeting.
John asked Betty Conover to see if anyone in the Golden Agers would be interested in starting clubs that could use the Senior Center.
Joe suggested that the Board visit three or four senior centers in the area to see their daily activities.
Rosemary and Marie agreed to work on a fundraising brochure and/or letter. Joe, Howard and John will look at furnishings. Kristen will send a letter to Crate and Barrel inquiring of its offer to donate furniture.
DISCUSSION
Rosemary advised that Sally Shakun inquired about becoming a member of the Human Services Board. Kristen will invite her to the February meeting.
ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m.
