TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

A meeting of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board was held in Town Hall on January 15, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.

 

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Rosemary Seghatoleslami, Chairwoman of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board, called the meeting to order and acted as the Chairwoman thereof, and Kristen H. Hamilton acted as Recording Secretary of the meeting.

 

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Phyllis Bialor, Warren Perrine, Betty Conover, Marie Perrine, Marilynn Mullen, Arlene Duran, Anna Johnson, Rosemary Seghatoleslami and Jay Hansen.

 

MINUTES

The minutes of the December 18, 2007, meeting were reviewed and approved as amended

 

WORK SESSION:

 

Cranbury Senior Community Center

           

            Room Improvements/Furnishings –

            Rosemary would like to have a utility sink installed in the room.  Kristen will inquire if it is possible.

Kristen ordered an A-Frame sign.

It may be desirable to purchase a screen and projector/DVD player to show movies and also purchase sheet music for the piano.

Prior to the next meeting, Kristen will find out how much is left of the grant money.

           

On-Going Programming: 

Sixteen people attended the musical program by Nancy Scharff. 

A postcard has been sent listing programs through the end of March.  Kristen will provide the library with additional copies.

The Board suggested the following programs for the remainder of 2008:

            Tom Reilly – travel talk

            Talk on space shuttle program

            Leo Fennity – Walker Gordon Walk – “Elsie the Cow”

            Frank Barlow – history program.  Marilynn will inquire.

            Craft program

            Plant swap/plant doctor

            Flower arranging.  Rosemary will check with Norma Swale to see if she would be interested in doing a program in October or November.

            Holiday Sing-A-Long – December

 

September 20th should be set as the date for a first anniversary celebration.  This is the same date as a Golden Agers meeting.  Phyllis will contact Howard to see if he contacted Edward Bogusz for entertainment.

 

Marilynn will bring a list of possible movies to the next meeting.

 

It was suggested that a host or hostess be in charge of each activity, who would welcome guests, introduce the program, and advise of available services.  Marilynn offered to host the January 25, 2008, movie. 

 

It was decided that a light lunch would be served before the April 11th program on fraud.  Phyllis will get prices from Tigers Deli and ShopRite.

 

Kristen will send information to be put in the “Around Cranbury” section of the Cranbury Press asking those interested in Scrabble, Mah Jongg, Bingo, Bunco, cards or similar activities to contact her.  She will also advise that seniors can be put on a mailing list for upcoming activities.  Kristen will check to see if “Coffee News” or the “Good Times” section of the Trenton Times can include the information.

 

Discussion –

 

            Transportation Grant – Phyllis spoke with Christine Smeltzer regarding the possibility of filing a grant for senior transportation.  Chris asked Phyllis to specify what the specific needs are, i.e. doctor’s appointments, shopping, etc.  Phyllis will contact Middlesex County to see if any grants are available and to gather more information.

 

            Phyllis contacted Four Seasons to see if its residents would like to be put on the mailing list.  Phyllis will inquire if the Senior Fellowship telephone list can be used to notify people of Human Services activities. 

 

            Kristen will send another email to Christine Smeltzer to advise that the trash still has not been taken out on a regular basis. 

 

Meeting

            The next meeting of the Human Services Board will be held on February 19, 2008, at 1:00 pm.   

 

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm.
