WORK SESSION
Cranbury Senior Community Center – Jean advised that Crate and Barrel has agreed to donate furniture for the Senior Center. Prior to picking out furnishings for the room, Rosemary will ask Pari Stave if the room needs to be used for other purposes.
Marie advised that Dr. Chen of Plainsboro will give a talk on acupuncture, Chinese massage and Chinese herbs. It was suggested that this be used as the “kick off” activity for the Senior Center. A tentative date of February 25, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. was set. Marie will check the date with Dr. Chen. Phyllis will ask Hot Wok if they will donate food for the event.
John provided a handout listing senior recreation activities provided by other communities. It is understood that the Recreation Department will be responsible for scheduling physical activities and trips and the Human Services Board will schedule activities to be held in the Senior Center. Ideas for speakers include the following: Jan Bayern, Middlesex County Surrogate and a driver’s course.
John will inquire if the Library will run programs for seniors, i.e. accessing the internet. He will also question if the Library will donate large print newspaper subscriptions and books to the Senior Center.
A counselor has been scheduled for November 30th and December 28th to discuss Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans. John will prepare a Press Release for Kristen to send to area churches and places of interest.
Township Newsletter – A senior page for the Township newsletter must be submitted by December 15th. All groups providing activities for seniors will be contacted for a listing to be included in the newsletter. The Secretary will compile the submission.
