Golden Age Neighbors

Cranbury Golden Age Neighbors is a club for seniors in Cranbury and close-by neighbors that was started over 50 years ago and is still going strong. The club is supported financially by Cranbury Township, Cranbury Lions Club, Middlesex County of Aging, in addition to the annual membership fee of $7.00 per member. The Club meets monthly, usually the third Saturday of each month at noon in either the Cranbury School Cafeteria, Methodist Church Social Hall or Fellowship Hall in the First Presbyterian Church. Some months a local organization sponsors the Club by setting up the room for the Luncheon Pot Luck Meeting and provides the entree, dinner rolls, birthday cakes, beverages and entertainment. The sponsoring organization also helps with the clean-up after the luncheon, entertainment and meeting. The months that the Club does not have a sponsor the Club members provide those services.

The organizations that sponsor the Club once a year are: Cranbury Lions Club, Cranbury Lioness Club, Cranbury Woman's Club, Cranbury Masons, United Methodist Church of Cranbury, Cranbury Presbyterian Church and the Catholic Women of Cranbury. The Club invites any Cranbury organization to volunteer to host the Club one time each year. It is a fine way to reach out to our community and bring joy to the older members of the community and put a smile on their faces and give your organization an opportunity to socialize with and make new friends with the seniors of the town.

Golden Age Neighbors sponsors at least two bus trips each year to neighboring luncheon theaters. The next bus trip is in July to travel to Sight and Sound Theatre in Pennsylvania to see the show "Ruth" with lunch at a local restaurant. The trip is presently sold out but others will be coming up. Usually a bus trip is planned for Hunterdon Hills to see the Christmas Show. Each year the Club has a lovely Christmas Party, twice a year the members are treated to a luncheon usually at the Prestige Diner on Route #33 in East Windsor. The Club is starting to provide volunteer greeters for the Gourgaud Gallery and they provide prizes for the monthly bingo games at The Elms of Cranbury.

Presently the Club has 77 members most from Cranbury and a few from the neighboring communities. The Club is called Golden Age Neighbors because we do reach out to our neighboring communities and most recently by reaching out to the new neighbors in the Four Seasons adult community in town.

Are you interested in joining the Club? It is easy to join. Come to any meeting with a full table service for yourself, bring a covered dish, and when you come in tell the greeter that you would like to join the Club. When you become a member you will be called by the Club and told when and where the next meeting will be, and who will be hosting the meeting. The membership enjoys sharing meals, conversation and entertainment with fellow Club members.
