MINUTES
The minutes of the September
9, 2003 meeting were reviewed and amended.
Motion to approve made by Norma Swale, second by John Toscano.
OLD BUSINESS
Judy Dossin opened
the meeting by stating that in October 2003 members of the Shade Tree made
arrangements to drive the town to photograph and note areas that could benefit
from a shade tree planting.
Unfortunately, no one was present at the arranged time. Within the next few days Emily and Judy drove
around performing this task. It was
noted that South Main Street is in need of many trees. The information was forwarded to Tom Witt.
Dave inquired to the
planting of shade trees for the streetscape in front of homes. Should the homeowner not wish a tree planted,
the Township will honor their decision. This
is where the Shade Tree Ordinance is lacking.
It however, allows up to a certain percentage of trees that can be
removed on ones private property.
NEW BUSINESS
Owner of the Cranbury Inn, Tom
Ingeneri, has received approvals from the town for an addition to this
establishment. The county has requested
removal of a large and mature sycamore tree, which is a contingency of the
addition. This large specimen has been
there for a very long time without any memorable vehicle or pedestrian
mishaps. John stated that there may be
an issue of room for this tree to grow.
Roots have uplifted the walk around the area, indicating a crowded
state. Judy made a motion for a
recommendation that the ST ask the TC to appeal to the county to reconsider its
decision. This motion was second by
Emily, all in favor. Judy will write a
recommendation.
Arbor Day this year will be April 30.
Judy asked for suggestions of varieties that would be appropriate for
this planting. Suggestions included Blue
Theodorus Glaka (evergreen), Autumn Purple Fraxinus (American Ash), American
Elm (Princeton) and Sunburst Golden Locust were offered. The location has not been determined as of this
date. Judy will call the school and ask
for their participation. The second
graders always add to the festiveness of the celebration. An added bonus are the parents, who love to
see their children participate in the celebration. The Mayor will read the Proclamation. The guest of honor will be decided as the
date approaches. Saplings will be handed
out at the end of the ceremony. The
Cranbury Press should be informed of this event for coverage.
Dave Zebuhr stated that
the area near the fire house pump station has been mowed and weed wacked, which
has caused damage or even killed the trees that were planted there.
ADJOURNMENT OF
MEETING
There being no
further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was
thereupon adjourned.
