CRANBURY TOWNSHIP

SHADE TREE COMMISSION

CRANBURY, NEW JERSEY

MIDDLESEX COUNTY

TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

The regularly scheduled meeting of April 11, 2006 of the Cranbury Township Shade Tree Commission was held was held in Town Hall, at 7:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Linda M. Scott, called this reorganization meeting to order. Nominations for a Chairperson solicited no interested individuals. Nominations as a Temporary Acting Chair produced Judy Dossin, motioned by Emily Goodfellow, second by Norma Swale, all in favor. Nominations as a Co-Chair Chair produced Norma Swale, motioned by Judy Dossin, second by Emily Goodfellow, all in favor. Judy Dossin, Temporary Acting Chair, led the meeting and, Linda M. Scott acted as Secretary of the meeting.

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant to the Sunshine Law adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6)was provided on January 3, 2006 of this meetings date, time, place and agenda was mailed to those requesting personal notice, and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Emily Goodfellow; Norma Swale, Co-Chair; and Judy Dossin, Temporary Acting Chair. Mona Bhatia called to inform secretary that she would be unable to attend the meeting.

MINUTES

The minutes of the October 11, 2005 meeting were reviewed. Motion to approve made by Emily Goodfellow, seconded by Norma Swale, with all in favor. The minutes of the December 13, 2005 meeting were reviewed. Motion to approve made by Norma Swale, seconded by Judy Dossin, all in favor. Emily Goodfellow recused herself.

OLD BUSINESS

Judy stated that there is a landscape plan for the community park, which the Township will implement. Judy did ask Tom Witt if there are any updates or changes that occur, he should communicate this to Norma Swale. It was felt that the projected start date for the ball field is in 2007, ending in the same year. This field will have irrigation.

The Cranbury Housing Authority has proposed to build one unity on the lot next to Village Park. The existing footpath located on this lot will continue to allow pedestrian traffic into the park after the unit is built. It was stated that there is much to squeeze onto this lot. It was questioned if another location for the single housing unit would be more feasible.

Norma asked if the library received a tree. She will talk with Howard Zogott, Library Director for his opinion of a suitable planting spot for a tree. A suggestion of planting in one of the islands in the parking lot would be ideal. Another suggestion for planting is any variety of maple from the approved shade tree list. Judy feels that more diversity is best when planting in groupings. Adding variety will offer different colors in the fall, ecology and scientific teaching.

NEW BUSINESS

Arbor Day is April 28, 2006. Secretary ordered seedlings as a give-away for the school kids and other attendees for the celebration. Secretary will work on the agenda. Mayor will read the proclamation. Judy will contact the schoolteachers to touch base with them and keep Tom Witt abreast also.

Resident Gary Giacalone of Plainsboro Road has reached out to Judy for a replacement shade tree to be planted on the street front of his property. An approved shade tree list was mailed to his address. Judy will contact him regarding his selection.

Norma noted that several sweet gum trees have been taken down in the Estates. These trees were planted on the inside (ownership) of the sidewalk. Should these residents wish to have replacement trees planted, the stumps will need grinding. The Township will replant but the homeowner must place a request for a tree.

Norma requested that when information of the upcoming Shade Tree Convention is received, that she be notified.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned.
