MINUTES
Due to lack of
quorum at the beginning of the meeting, the minutes of the October 11, 2005 could
not be approved and will be placed on the February 14, 2006 agenda.
NEW BUSINESS
Judy informed everyone in attendance that Dave Zebuhr is not interested
to serve on the Shade Tree Commission in 2006.
She has been actively seeking interested individuals to replace this
vacancy. However, Tom Panconi expressed
to Judy that he has a resident who may be interested to serve.
Judy does not wish to serve as Chairperson in 2006. She solicited the Commission for a new Chair.
The Wright South clean up project contract has been awarded. The clean up has not begun as of this
date. Tom Witt has been responsible following
the progress and contractor.
The Cranbury Inn, while under construction, had two young ginkgos
destroyed between the sidewalk and South Main Street. Judy feels that these trees should be
replaced. John stated that there is not
enough room for the ginkgo root system to grow in the allotted space. He did recommend that a different specie with
smaller root system would do well in this area.
John will research for a suitable
specie.
The east side of South Main Street across from the Presbyterian Church is
void of streetscape. It was expressed
that this may be acceptable, especially since the homeowners will not provide
proper care for the trees.
Judy stated the CHA parcel of land on Maplewood Avenue has been slated
for the 3rd round affordable housing criteria. This
property, which has the new path entrance, is home to the champion Pawpaw tree
as listed in the “Big Trees of NJ” book.
Norma noticed that several
small tree plantings have been planted in front of a resident’s property on Old
Trenton Road.
Norma spoke with Tom
Witt regarding the 100th Birthday Celebration for the Public Library
and planting a tree in their honor. She
will look for the best visually pleasing spot from the inside of the Library
for this tree. There were two suggestions
for this planting, an evergreen and a dawn redwood. Another suggestion was made regarding the
consideration of statuary. It was felt
that the Shade Tree Commission should plant a shade tree.
ADJOURNMENT OF
MEETING
There being no
further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was
thereupon adjourned.
