OLD BUSINESS

Park Signage and Bench Committee – Chris read a letter written by Ginny Swanagan explaining the background of the “Village of Cranbury” signs.  The original metal silhouette was made by West Pattern Works.  The Committee has not yet gotten any prices.

The Committee has not gotten a chance to look at any benches.

Gifts and Bequests Document – Tom has asked Chris Smeltzer to inquire of other municipalities if they have a similar document that can be reviewed.

Memorial Trees for Parks –A decision will need to be made if an area should be specifically dedicated for trees.  The Commission will go through the parks in the spring and make recommendations.

NEW BUSINESS

Budget – Tom received an email from Denise Marabello advising that money is available from the golf tournament and grant for park items; therefore, no request needs to be made in the 2008 capital budget for park items.

Plaque for Babs Thomsen Tree – The Commission would prefer a simple brass plaque be attached to the tree.  It was suggested that some type of registry be kept when trees or other items are gifted to the Township.

Recreation – Nothing to report.

DISCUSSION

Chris advised that Judy Dossin’s family would like a bench put by the stone in “Judy’s Meadow”.

Tom has prepared a thank you letter to Jerry Thorne and his crew for planting the bulbs in “Judy’s Meadow”.

The Commission reviewed the proposed appointments for 2008 and had no objections.

Joan advised that she spoke to Amy Amico of the Arts Council about statuary for the parks.  The Arts Council would like to recommend to Parks the source and design of statuary and will look into funding as a non-profit group.  The Parks Commission would  then make a final recommendation to the Township Committee.

The Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission is donating a plaque for the grist stone by the History Center.  A question was raised if the Parks Commission would like a say where the plaque is placed.  After discussion, it was decided that the Historical Society should make the recommendation to the Parks Commission.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.  Motion by Tom; seconded by Joan; all in favor.
