CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Tom Weidner called the meeting to order at 8:45 a.m. Kristen Hamilton acted as Secretary.
STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE
Pursuant to the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A 10:4-5) was provided on January 2, 2007, of this meeting’s date, time, and place and the agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulletin board, mailed to those requesting personal notice and filed with the Municipal Clerk.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE
Tom Weidner, Pat Scott, Kathy Wasson, Chris Parker, Norma Swale and Bill Schraudenbach attended.
The minutes from the September 12, 2007, meeting were approved; motion by Pat; seconded by Kathy.
2008 Budget - After much discussion, a Motion was made by Tom; seconded by Bill; all in favor, to recommend to the Township Committee that $15,000.00 be added to the 2008 budget for Park signs and benches.
Park Signage and Bench Committee - Chris reported that a sign similar to the one in Millstone Park would cost approximately $1,420.00 installed. Some members voiced that they preferred the style of the sign in Village Park. There are no signs at Heritage Park or Barn Park.
The Commission opined that neither of the bench styles at Heritage Park is desired. Chris will research different bench styles.
Recreation Master Plan/Stream Corridor Access Status – The Planning Board has adopted the Recreation Master Plan, which incorporated the recommendations made by Park Planning. Tom feels that there should be a Master Plan for Parks. Thought should be given whether or not a consultant should be hired.
Gifts and Bequests Document – Chris Smeltzer is to review the document. Kristen will contact her for a copy.
Donations in Memory of Judy Dossin – The Dossin Family would like a bench by “Judy’s Meadow”. A decision will need to be made on the style of the bench.
Norma recently spoke to Jerry Thorne regarding the planting of the flower bulbs. It was decided that Public Works would rent a turf cutter, raise the turf, place the bulbs, and then replace the turf. Chris, Kathy and Bill will be available when the planting takes place.
Recreation – Nothing to report.
2008 Appointments – The Commission reviewed the Township Ordinance establishing the Parks Commission. Four members are to be appointed for three-year terms; three members for one-year terms and alternates for one-year terms. In the past, all members were appointed for one-year terms. No member present expressed a preference for which term they are reappointed. Tom will contact Mayor Stout with his recommendation.
2008 Meeting Dates – Meetings for 2008 will continue on the second Wednesday of each month at 8:45am, with the exception of no meeting being held in August.
Norma advised that she spoke with Jerry about the Tot Lot in Heritage Park. In some areas the grass comes right up to the landscape ties. Jerry agreed to bring the dirt up to meet the height of the landscape ties and plant with grass seed. This will eliminate the drop off.
ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Motion by Tom; seconded by Kathy; all in favor.
