Recreation – Beth advised that:
Park Benches – Joan, Chris and Norma volunteered to form a subcommittee to decide where park benches should be placed and the design of the benches. They agreed to have a design report at the December meeting. Tom asked that they have a price for the October meeting so it can be included in the budget request.
Memorial Trees for Parks – A thank you note was received from the family of Babs Thomsen for help in the tree planting in Heritage Park.
The Commission needs to consider what park to plant trees in when people wish to donate trees. The design of the plaques also needs to be decided. Chris Smeltzer suggested that a development plan for the parks be prepared. Kathy and Tom will look through old files for information.
Recreational Master Plan – Tom advised that he did not meet with Pari Stave and Dave Stout over the summer to discuss stream corridor access due to vacation schedules. Richard Preiss is not finished with the revisions to the Master Plan, which will include Park’s comments regarding the stream corridor.
The easements in Shadow Oaks to Millstone need to be identified by the Township. A question was raised as to who in the Township would have information regarding the easements.
Park Signage – Pari Stave advised Tom that Parks should decide what type of signs it wants and present a proposal to the Township Committee. Joan, Norma and Chris volunteered to form a subcommittee to come up with a design. Chris will chair the subcommittee.
Gifts and Bequests Document – Beth met with Trishka Waterbury regarding the document. Pari Stave has approved it and now Christine Smeltzer needs to review.
Budget – The Commission should think about items to request for next year’s budget for discussion at the October meeting. Kristen will inquire if benches were included in the 2007 budget.
Donations for Judy – Norma has purchased crocuses and daffodils for Heritage Park. They need to be planted by the end of November. Chris will ask Judy’s family how they would like to see the balance of the money spent.
Norma will find out who owns the triangular patch of land at the intersection of Route 130 and North Main Street. She feels it could be beautified and would be the ideal location for a “Welcome to Cranbury” area.
Kathy is researching available grant monies and put will a schedule of information together.
Norma will research what type of bushes should be planted at the edge of the tot lot in Heritage Park.
Chris advised that she has contacted the Cranbury Press numerous times regarding the Arbor Day ceremony and nothing has been published.
Tom made an inquiry about the CHA lot on Maplewood Avenue. The lot will not be taken out of the plan unless another lot can be delineated in its place.
