TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

The scheduled meeting of the Cranbury Township Municipal Alliance Committee was held on October 12, 2004 in the Town Library, 23 North Main Street, in Cranbury Township at 12:30 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Joan Rue, Acting Chairperson, called session to order at 12: p.m. and acted as Chairperson thereof, and Kathleen S. Wasson acted as Secretary of the meeting.

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant to the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6) was provided on January 7, 2003 of this meeting’s date, time and place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulletin board, mailed to those requesting personal notice, and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Acting Chairperson Joan Rue, Municipal Alliance Coordinator Michele Hliewicki, Christine Orcutt, Fay Kobland, Colleen Marsh, Captain Ed Kahler, Carol Malouf and Howard Zogott attended. Also in attendance were Karen Henderson and Maureen Rafferty.

MINUTES

Minutes of June 8, 2004 were approved by unanimous vote. Motion by Chris Orcutt; second by Colleen Marsh. Minutes of September 28, 2004 were approved by unanimous vote. Motion by Chris Orcutt; second by Colleen Marsh.

OLD BUSINESS

• The chat groups have begun.
• Mrs. Mosley will not be doing Tai Chi classes this year. She is busy with her graduate studies.
• Captain Kahler reported that everything is all set for the panel discussion program being offered on Thursday night.
• Michele was able to obtain information to put a package together for parents. She will try to get bags to put the information in and have them ready for the meeting on Thursday. The police will have fliers to provide as well.
• The date of the JamFest is January 7, 2005. The school will be renting some equipment for the event. There will be three locations: the auditorium, cafeteria and double gym. The student representatives were asked to come up with ideas for equipment they would like to have.
• Joan Rue would like to invite Mrs. Charwin to speak to the MA about the nutrition program which is offered to girls in the school. Maureen Rafferty suggested speaking to boys and girls about the use of protein supplements and steroids. Joan will contact Princeton Hospital and Helene Fuld Hospital to see about getting speakers to talk with the MA members.

NEW BUSINESS

• The first Princeton High School dance went well. There were between 500 and 600 kids. There were no major events. The Principal felt that it was a big success.
• The MA will try to sponsor another event where the Cranbury School 7^th and 8^th graders are bussed over to John Witherspoon School in Princeton to meet each other prior to entering the High School.
• Michele offered to put together a display in the Library for the “Great American Smokeout.” She also has an article to place in the Cranbury Press.
• Maureen Rafferty said that a former student at Princeton HS was murdered in Trenton. Chris Orcutt said that the individual was a gang member and had not attended the HS for some time. She also said that the Princeton PD said that there are no gangs operating either in the school or in Princeton.
• It was determined that a meeting between Freshmen and peer group leaders was no longer necessary. They meet together every Wednesday at the High School. Mrs. Malouf will place an article in the CS newsletter and let people know who to contact in order to get information about Princeton HS. One idea is for a social event in the summer with 9^th and 10^th graders, around the time of Cranbury Day. Another is to have something like a “welcoming guide” or family assigned to the freshmen.
• The Library is hosting a mystery movie night for high school students only.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
