MINUTES
Minutes of October 12, 2004 were approved by unanimous
vote. Motion by Colleen Marsh; second by
Susan Mayes.
OLD BUSINESS
- Fay said that the 6th grade boys CHAT
group, run by Ken Hoyne, went very well; there will be another this
semester with the same group, and then later with 7th and 8th
graders. Patti Barber ran two girls
groups – she will do a 7th and 8th grade group in
the next semester.
- Mrs. Mosley may want to do future classes with
students, but may do them through the PTO after school program instead of
with the Alliance. Michelle will
try to find a Tai Chi instructor for this school year, as she knows an
instructor.
- Michelle said that the panel discussion went
very well – 25 to 30 parents attended.
Captain Kahler and Chief Hansen spoke, along with a former
prosecutor and Detective Creegan, a Princeton police officer who works
with the high school. In addition,
a Corner House representative was on the panel. At the program, there were discussions
about the recent issue of possible gang activity at the high school. A general discussion then took place
about this issue, with Susan Mayes expressing her concern that the high
school is downplaying the issue of gang activity. Michelle suggested getting a speaker she
knows from the State Police who deals with this issue.
- Joan asked the student representatives for ideas
for the JamFest. Drew Holland said
that the students would like the activities to be spread out in the school
this year, instead of being located in one area. Joan will pass that idea on to the PTO
and school administration. Susan
Mayes said that Jane Holland expressed a need for more ping pong tables
and televisions for video games and more DDRs. Some students also suggested having an
air hockey table. Susan provided
the Alliance members with cost information for renting certain tables and games. Chris Orcutt suggested having a karaoke
machine.
- Michael Mayes said that he will get back to the
Alliance next week on the issue of sending buses to Princeton for football
games and other sporting events.
NEW BUSINESS
- The Secretary provided the Alliance members with
copies of a memorandum to the Town Clerk, listing the approved meeting
dates for 2005. Howard Zogott
confirmed that the Library meeting room is available and has reserved it for
those dates. The Alliance members
asked the Secretary to check about doing one Legal Notice at the beginning
of the year, as opposed to one each month for each of the monthly
meetings.
- Michelle attended the Governor’s Council meeting
last month, where the Princeton Student Alliance Board won an award. Michelle attended a seminar on steroid
use. She reported the information
she received at this seminar to the Alliance members, and suggested that
speakers can be arranged to address the Alliance on this subject.
- Joan said that there will be an all-day seminar
on December 4th about the use of methamphetamines. Michelle said that she will probably
attend.
- A general discussion took place about the budget
submission. Joan provided the
Alliance members with a copy of the September Budget Transaction Audit
Trail report received from the Township Finance Office. Joan and Michelle will prepare the
budget submission. Chris Orcutt
suggested having programs in Cranbury provided by the Princeton HighTops
program. Jean Golisano suggested
having more speakers, since Michelle knows of many.
ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING
There being no further business, on motion duly made,
seconded, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 2:05 p.m.
