TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

The scheduled meeting of the Cranbury Township Municipal Alliance Committee was held on May 24, 2004 in the Town Library, 23 North Main Street, in Cranbury Township at 12:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Joan Rue, Acting Chairperson, called session to order at 12:10 p.m. and acted as Chairperson thereof, and Kathleen S. Wasson acted as Secretary of the meeting.

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant to the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6) was provided on January 7, 2003 of this meeting’s date, time and place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulletin board, mailed to those requesting personal notice, and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Acting Chairperson Joan Rue, Christine Orcutt, Jean Golisano, Susan Mayes, Debbie Marra, Marian Levine and Howard Zogott attended. Also present was Judy Ulinsky, Cranbury School Teacher.

Sam Venanzi and Zara Stasi.

MINUTES

Minutes of April 20, 2004 were tabled.

OLD BUSINESS

• Zara Stasi said that everyone liked the JamFest – especially the gymnasium sports, including volleyball, and the DDR (dance) pads. There were almost 200 students in attendance. Sam said that the food was awesome. He also said that one problem was that students wanted to leave early and were not allowed to go until the end. Zara said that only a few students tried to leave early. Zara said that, because it was so spread out inside the school, it was hard to get from the music in the old gym to the sports in the new gym. Chris Orcutt suggested that the Studio Band be held on a separate night the next time. Judy did a survey of 170 students – it was overwhelmingly positive. Some students suggested having a JamFest in place of a dance next year. Debbie suggested slitting the time for the chaperones next year, to two, 1 ½ hour shifts instead of the entire three hours because it is hard to get chaperones. Judy said that a lot of 9^th graders wanted to come and participate, and this should be considered for next year. There was some concern that 6^th graders would be intimidated by the presence of 9^th graders at a JamFest.

• Sam said that the Drug Free Fair had good food and the young kids had more fun than older kids because there is more for them. Some 8^th graders did not want to go because there is not a lot for them to do. Joan suggested having a battle of the bands or a running race on that day. Sam thought that bands would draw older kids there. Marian suggested ultimate Frisbee, as it is very popular at Princeton High School.

• Judy said that the survey for the JamFest also asked about the chat groups as well. She passed out copies of the results for the members. Judy said that the chat groups were very successful. Judy proposed having an early morning program for older students. Joan asked Judy to try and determine how many staff members would be interested in doing this.

NEW BUSINESS

• Two people were interviewed last evening for the MA Coordinator position. There was a general discussion about the two applicants. The members decided to conduct a second interview with one of the two candidates. There was also a general discussion about the future of the Municipal Alliance, in terms of possibly combining the Alliance with the PTO Drug Free board members. Howard suggested setting a deadline for when a new MA Coordinator will be in place.

• Joan passed out submissions from other counties which list their programs, for the information of the alliance members. She suggested having MA Coordinators from other towns address the MA members to give advice as to programming. The members thought that it would be a good idea.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 1: p.m.
