TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

            The scheduled meeting of the Cranbury Township Municipal Alliance Committee was held on May 25, 2006, in the Library meeting room, 23 North Main Street, in Cranbury Township at 12:00 Noon.

 

CALL TO ORDER

            Chairperson Jane Holland called the session to order and acted as Chairperson thereof, and Kristen H. Hamilton acted as Secretary of the meeting.

 

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

            Pursuant to the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-6) was provided on January 4, 2006, of this meeting’s date, time and place and the agenda was posted on the Township bulletin board, mailed to those requesting personal notice, and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

 

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

            Jane Holland, Angie Cook, Karen Henderson, Fay Kobland, Carol Malouf, Joan Rue and Howard Zogott attended the meeting.

 

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

            Hailey Walsh and William Waltrip.

 

NON-MEMBER IN ATTENDANCE

            Beth Veghte, Chairperson of the Cranbury Township Board of Recreation.

 

MINUTES

            The Minutes of the April 27, 2006, meeting were reviewed and approved as modified on a motion by Karen Henderson; seconded by Angie Cook.

 

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT

            William Waltrip expressed his disappointed in the Teen Tent at the Drug Free Fair.   

 

COORINDATOR’S REPORT

            Susan Paterson was not present at the meeting, but provided a written report. 

            Susan’s report outlined a drunken driving accident reenactment held for students a few days before the Princeton High School Prom.  Jane Holland feels that the event had a major impact on the students in attendance.  More details can be obtained next year to see if this is an event the MA would like to help finance.  

            Susan also advised that she has provided Cheryl Coyle of the Cranbury PTO with information on the “Wasted” program.

 

BUDGET

            The MA reviewed expenditures to date and accepted the budget as presented.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

            Drug Free Fair – Jane Holland reported that the Drug Free Fair Teen Tent went well considering it was its first year.  New activities should be planned for the future.  A motion was made by Jane Holland and seconded by Angie Cook to co-sponsor the Drug Free Fair in the future by providing the t-shirts, which would include the Municipal Alliance’s logo, and Teen Tent.  All in favor.

            Questionnaire –  Jane Holland asked that anyone who has not turned in their questionnaire to please do so. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

            Cranbury Day – The MA needs to think about ideas for Cranbury Day.  Some ideas that were mentioned are:  bracelet giveaways, balloons, sponsoring a contest with the DJ, or having a street theatre performance. 

 

            Battle of the Bands – The Cranbury Township Board of Recreation is sponsoring a Battle of the Bands on Friday, June 2, for high school students.  The MA has been asked to co-sponsor the event by providing refreshments.  A motion was made by Jane Holland and seconded by Angie Cook to provide refreshments for the Battle of the Bands.  All in favor with the exception of Joan Rue, who was not present for the vote, and Fay Kobland, who abstained for lack of information.  A banner advertising the event should be placed on the Township website as well as the Library’s website.

 

            Movies in the Park – Beth Veghte advised that the Board of Recreation is purchasing a license to show movies on school property for $350.00 per year.  Beth inquired if the MA would like to co-sponsor a movie night for teens.  Angie Cook voiced her opposition to showing any movie outside with a rating over PG.  Beth advised that the MA would get to select the movie that it co-sponsors.  A motion was made by Karen Henderson and seconded by Angie Cook to expend up to $700.00 to co-sponsor a movie night with the Board of Recreation on July 21, 2006.  All in favor.   

 

            Senior Education – Jane Holland inquired if the MA would like to sponsor an informational session for seniors on prescription drug abuse.  It was determined that that Board of Health and Human Services Board should be contacted regarding same. 

 

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

            There being no further business, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned.
