HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
CRANBURY, NEW JERSEY
TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING
The meeting of the Cranbury Township Historic Preservation Commission was held in Town Hall, Cranbury, New Jersey, on September 4, 2007 beginning at 7:30 pm.
STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE
Pursuant of the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-5) was provided on January 2, 2007 of this meeting’s date, time, place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulleting board, mailed to those requesting personal notice and filed with the Municipal Clerk.
CALL TO ORDER
With a quorum present, Chairperson, Bobbie Marlowe called the meeting to order and Linda M. Scott performed as Secretary.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE
Wayne Girardet, Diane Stasi and Bobbie Marlowe, Chair, were present. Record will reflect that Bobbie Marlowe excused Harry Williams with a medical absence. Alana Stops contacted secretary to inform her that she would be unable to attend.
The minutes from the August 21, 2007 meeting were reviewed, amended and approved with a motion by Bobbie Marlowe, second by Wayne Girardet, all in favor. Record will reflect that Diane Stasi recused herself.
22 Maplewood Avenue, (B33,L21) In Historic District, Classified C; Property owner, Brian Deverin, was present his application of a proposed 8’x 12’ salt box style shed, found at www.jamaicacottageshop.com and is pre made. The location will be as indicated on the supplied plot plan. The roof shingles and exterior clapboard wood siding color will match the existing house. The wood double entry doors will have exposed hardware and will face the existing house. There will be two 4 pane windows, located on each side of the entry doors. Brian stated that the foundation will be of laid field stone, over crushed stone that matches an existing garden wall. HPC reviewed the application and information sheet. A verbal vote to approve:
AYES: Mr. Girardet, Ms. Stasi, and Ms. Marlowe.
10 Park Place, (B32,L21) In Historic District, Classified C+, Conceptual discussion; homeowner Tim Brennan was present with his ideas for the proposed addition to the existing home. He followed up on the idea to review the plans drawn and year dated 1996. Like the plans, he proposes to add a porch with tapered columns. HPC stated that these columns should not match the front porch columns. Tim would use squared wooden lattice below the porch. A railing may be required but HPC prefers not to have one installed. Tim stated that the porch could be dropped so there is step-up into the house. This would help with the railing issue and also add height to the above porch roof. According to §93-7(14) the side entry door shall not be changed. A shed roof with shingles, matching the existing is proposed. Roof lines will not meet. Windows on the top floor are added but without dormers. The addition will be slightly off set, coming off the backside of the existing house. Tim would like to have a draftsman customize the plans. HPC warned him to be aware of the details and the actual size of the windows does exist.
Of the members in attendance, Bobbie and Wayne could participate in discussion. Diane recused herself. Alana will be contacted by secretary for her review of the drawings and proposed changes. Diane recused herself from discussion.
A question was raised regarding conflict of interest pertaining to applications before the Commission. Secretary read § 21-8 Conflict of Interest/removal aloud. This answered questions of the participation for members with regard to personal or financial interest when certain applications come before the Commission.
Diane suggested that HPC buy tickets to the show house at 103 North Main Street. This application came to HPC earlier this year. For a $5 donation, it will be open for a walk thru, displaying items that HPC approved.
There is no update regarding the Guidelines. Secretary will contact her before the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING
There being no further business, a motion duly made by Bobbie Marlowe, seconded by Wayne Girardet and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 9:05pm.
