HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

            The meeting of the Cranbury Township Historic Preservation Commission was held in Town Hall, Cranbury, New Jersey, on August 21, 2007 beginning at 7:50 pm.

 

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

            Pursuant of the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-5) was provided on January 2, 2007 of this meeting’s date, time, place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulleting board, mailed to those requesting personal notice and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

 

CALL TO ORDER

            With a quorum present, Chairperson, Bobbie Marlowe called the meeting to order and Linda M. Scott performed as Secretary.

 

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

            Wayne Girardet, Alana Stops and Chair, Bobbie Marlowe were present.  Record will reflect that Harry Williams contacted secretary to inform her that he would be unable to attend. 

 

 

APPLICATIONS

            102 North Main Street, (B26.01,L13.01) In Historic District, Classified C; homeowners were present for their application to replace the existing casement windows installed in the (two) top level dormers with single double hung 1/1 vinyl windows.  Doing so will give compatibility with the other existing windows in the home.  Photos of an existing damaged header on a casement window frame were examined by HPC.  The damage appears to be moisture/water related that has traveled within the walls.  HPC said that if the damaged frame is replaced with vinyl and the source of the water/moisture is not discovered, water may travel elsewhere which will cause damage to another area.  HPC discussed, reviewed and approved this application for installation of 1/1 vinyl windows with the recommendation that homeowner investigate the root of existing water damage and re-consider using wood windows.  A verbal vote to approve this application with the recommendation:

AYES:  Mr. Girardet, Ms. Marlowe, Ms. Stops.

 

 

            49 South Main Street, (B18,L4) In Historic District, not Classified;  Mr. Wise was present for discussion regarding the design and installation of two separate places for the proposed black hand rails.  Material is black aluminum.  One hand rail, no pickets, will be installed on the right side as you walk up from South Main Street to the walk.  The other hand rails will be a set installed on the stairs that lead up to the house and will have 7 pickets ¾”x ¾”.  According to code, no rails are required for the porch,  A verbal vote to approve this application as submitted:

AYES:  Mr. Girardet, Ms. Marlowe, Ms. Stops.

 

           

 

 

APPLICATIONS (cont.)

            14 Symmes Court, (B23,L92) In Historic District,, not Classified; Homeowners, Lisa and Tom Walsh were present for their application for two new garage doors to replace the existing garage doors that do not match.  After review of the drawings and photos that were submitted with the application, a verbal vote to approve the doors was taken.

AYES: Mr. Girardet, Ms. Marlowe, Ms. Stops.

 

DISCUSSION

            Bobbie thanked Wayne for accommodating the last minute phone call to attend the meeting even though he was in extreme pain due to a motorcycle mishap on Friday.

            Wayne asked if confirmation was received for the wood exterior on the approved shed at 4 Maplewood Avenue (B33,L13).  Homeowner presented a brochure confirming wood exterior on August 13.

           

           

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

            There being no further business, a motion duly made by Wayne Girardet, seconded by Bobbie Marlowe and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 8:35 pm.
