HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

CRANBURY, NEW JERSEY

MIDDLESEX COUNTY

TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

The regular meeting of the Cranbury Township Historic Preservation Commission was held in Town Hall, Cranbury, New Jersey, on November 21, 2006 beginning at 7:30 pm.

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant of the Sunshine Law, adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-5) was provided on January 4, 2006 of this meeting’s date, time, place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulleting board, mailed to those requesting personal notice and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Chairperson Bobbie Marlowe called the meeting to order, and Linda M. Scott, Secretary for the Commission, performed as Secretary.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Diane Stasi, Alana Stops, Harry Williams, and Chairperson Bobbie Marlowe, were present.

MINUTES

The minutes of October 17, 2006 were reviewed, amended and approved with a motion by Diane Stasi, second by Bobbie Marlowe, all in favor.  Alana Stops recused herself.

APPLICATIONS

33 South Main Street, (B33,L11) In Historic District, Classified C; application received for the installation of a storm door to the front entrance.  Alana reviewed §93-7(14) and the Secretary of Interior Standards, neither cite storm/screen door applications.  The proposed full light door style does not hide the front door.  HPC discussed approving this style storm door because the full light style does not significantly alter the appearance of the existing front door.  A verbal roll call to approve this application as presented:

Ayes:   Ms. Stasi, Ms. Stops, Mr. Williams, and Ms. Marlowe.

DISCUSSION

Secretary will contact Ms. Gail Hunton regarding the Guidelines.  To date the letter, as communicated from Gail, has not been received.

As suggested by HPC during their previous meeting regarding the one Historic District property that is having difficulty receiving their letters, a certified letter was sent to and received by their attorney of record, Frank Brennan, Esq. on their behalf.

As of this meeting date, all Historic District and Buffer Zone property owners have received the letter, via regular mail or certified.  There are two properties that the postal service was unable to deliver as certified, reason being “unclaimed”.

Bobbie Marlowe volunteered to write an article for the next newsletter.

Alana Stops loaned her HD/BZ listing to the secretary.  This document will be recreated to have on file.  It is needed due to a recent computer failure in which all documents are irretrievable.

A Dover Publication catalog was requested by Alana Stops.  This catalog was reviewed by Diane Stasi and several booklets were requested.  Secretary will order them for the HPC library.

All members of HPC and the administrative officer attended the Cultural Resources Best Practices Workshop on October 27, 2007, that was presented by the NJDEP Historic Preservation Office.  Certificates of Completion were distributed to all, copies of which are now on file in the HPC office.

Diane stated that the NJ Legislature will be passing a bill for historic preservation tax incentives.  Information can be found online.

With an email to the secretary in October, Alana Stops suggested that HPC order several informational books written by the National Park Service.  They were received and distributed to all members.  One publication of interest is A Self-Assessment Guide for Local Preservation Commissions.  HPC will review and submit answers for the questionnaire to have on file.

Alana asked to be kept abreast of the upcoming seminar at Drew University 2007.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, a motion duly made by Bobbie Marlowe, seconded by Alana Stops and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned.
