TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

The regular meeting of the Cranbury Township Historic Preservation Advisory Commission was held at the Town Hall, Cranbury, New Jersey, on September 21, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.

 

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Bobbie Marlowe, Chair of the Cranbury Township Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, called the meeting to order and acted as the Chairman thereof, and, Linda M. Scott, acted as Secretary of the meeting.

 

STATEMENT OF ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant of the Sunshine Law adequate notice in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-5) was provided on January 7, 2004 of this meeting=s date, time, place and agenda was mailed to the news media, posted on the Township bulletin board, mailed to those requesting personal notice and filed with the Municipal Clerk.

Richard Grubb, Diane Stasi, DonJo Swanagan, Harry Williams, and Bobbie Marlowe, Chair.

 

MINUTES

The minutes of the September 7, 2004 meeting were reviewed and amended, motion to approve by Diane Stasi, second by DonJo Swanagan, all in favor.

 

APPLICATIONS

George Arpajian of 12 Evans Drive was present to discuss his application for the re-roofing and installation of three skylights. His roof leaks when heavy rains and snows present themselves. The skylights were mapped in a photo that he supplied. After discussion regarding the proposed materials and placement of the skylights, this application was approved by all.

Application was made by Timothy C. Norland for a shed to be placed on 89 North Main Street. This shed will be placed behind an existing barn and will not be seen from the street. After reviewing application and viewing a supplied photocopy of shed, this application was approved by all.

Application was made for James Till of 139 North Main Street for the re-roofing of their existing house and garage. After reviewing the submitted application and photos, this application was approved by all.

Application PB 078-04; Gallagher, 57 Old Trenton Road; Minor Site Plan. This application is for am 11 x 6 oval shaped sign black in color with the trade name painted on it that will hang from the mail box on Old Trenton Rd. HPAC reviewed this application with no comment.

 

DISCUSSION

Eric Abbey was present for discussion of the proposed materials of his 50 Maplewood Avenue home. Revised drawings were e-mailed to secretary and copies were distributed at the meeting. HPAC reviewed the drawings. Harry produced photos of this site, which will remain on file. The shed is not in salvageable condition which will be torn down. The original existing structure siding will be determined, cement board is homeowners choice. The newer portion of the proposed addition to the house will be have vinyl siding. Eric will submit specifications for all windows along with a true representation of trim details and sill. He will also submit a proportioned design of wooden porch posts. HPAC prefers not to have railing on the front porch. The elevation is low enough that railings would not be required. Shutters will be real louvered wood and hardware for the original structure. The left elevation will reflect a rectangular stacked chimney that will also serve as a break point for the siding. The front door may be recycled from Betty Wagner. This is yet to be determined. The roofing material will have thick asphalt shingles to emulate the look of slate. Demolition permit for the shed will be issued when Eric brings in application. It was suggested that he wait to demolish the rear portion of house. It should be done in conjunction with the foundation.

Eric will return on October 5 with the required information and drawings.

Diane and Bobbie are interested in attending the CAMP presented by the NJDEP HPO in Collingswood on October 14, 2004.

At a previous meeting, a resident attended to express her concerns of a large structure in town. A question was raised if HPAC has the right to limit the amount of time allowed for residents to have the floor. The answer is yes, limiting the amount of time is allowed.

 

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, on motion duly made by Bobbie Marlowe, seconded Richard Grubb, and carried, the meeting was thereupon adjourned at 9:45 pm.
