SUBJECT: Environmental Commission 2007 Year-End Report
The activities of the Cranbury Township Environmental Commission in 2007 are summarized in this Year-End Report.
Membership –We began the year with three vacancies created by the resignation of James Applegate, William Mikula and James Golubieski. Andrew Johnson was appointed in January and Barbara Rogers and Dietrich Wahlers moved from alternate members to permanent members. New members were actively recruited, and we succeeded in filling the vacancy with the addition of Paul Mullen as an alternate. At the end of 2007, John Kobland’s term expired and Paul Mullen will move to a permanent member, leaving two alternate member vacancies.
Environmental Resources Inventory –The Environmental Resources Inventory (ERI) was completed and presented to the Planning Board.. The ERI is available for downloading on the Township web-site and a copy is available at the Library.
Cranbury Brook Preserve –The EC continues to implement the development of a management plan for the Cranbury Brook Preserve. A Conservation Program Contract was entered with the NRCS on March 21, 2007.
Stormwater Regulations –Members of the Environmental Commission continued to assist in Local Public Education Program through our Cranbury Day activities
Soil-Testing Program –The EC continued to support a soil-testing program in conjunction with the Rutgers Soil Testing Laboratory. Soil-testing kits were purchased and made available for free to township residents. The test results enable homeowners to eliminate unnecessary application of fertilizers and pesticides on their lawns.
Educational Activities – The EC had a booth at Cranbury Day, at which information was made available on the stormwater regulations, our water-testing program, the Cranbury Brook Preserve, free soil-testing kits, and other activities of the EC. Articles about EC activities were included in each of the Township's newsletters.
Regulatory Activities –The draft Stream Corridor Ordinance was reviewed with the Township Planner. A subcommittee consisting of EC members revised the Ordinance and resubmitted same to the Township Committee.
Freehold Soil –Notices of Violation and other activities of the Freehold Soil Conservation District were monitored, supported, and encouraged as needed.
Applications –Notices of Violation and other activities of the Freehold Soil Conservation District were monitored, supported, and encouraged as needed.
