OLD BUSINESS

Rabies Protocol - Dr. Coumbis gave an overview about Rabies.  It is a viral illness that is fatal if untreated.  Persons handling wild animals need to be vaccinated. There is a 7 day incubation period that the virus works its way to the nerves and nervous system and once in the brain the virus works very rapidly.  Animals who are suspected of having rabies are quarantined for at least 10 days.  The best prevention is to make sure dogs and cats are vaccinated.

The Board of Health will create a bullet list and or flip card of things to do if you suspect an animal is rabid.  We will provide these cards to the Hightstown dispatcher, Cranbury Police, post on the township web-site, and hand out at the Rabies clinics.

Also, the Board of Health strongly recommends that Jerry Thorne, ACO receive a new series of rabies vaccinations and follow the CDC guidelines for follow up vaccinations.

Flu Vaccination - The Board and Ms. Gerberich discussed vaccinating the school children.

Grant Opportunities / Obesity in Children - Ms. Gerberich discuss the Cranbury school children’s BMI.  There will be new school nutrition laws in September 2007.

Drug Free Fair - The Fair is May 19th, 11-2pm.  Mr. Jackson, Ms. Coyle and Dr. Notterman have agreed to work the table.
