MINUTES OF THE CRANBURY TOWNSHIP

BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006

 

Time and Place of Meeting: Chairwoman Shapiro duly opened the September monthly meeting, held at the Cranbury Town Hall, at 7:04 p.m.

 

In Attendance: Bernice Shapiro, Board Chair; Cheryl Coyle, Board Vice-Chair; Angela Cook, Board Member; John Jackson, Board Member; Dr. John Coumbis, Board Member; Sharon Martens, Registered Enviornmental Health Specialist, Middlesex County Public Health Department; Edmond Konin, Esq., Board Attorney; and Dawn Maisano, Board Secretary.

 

Call to Order: With a quorum present, Chair Shapiro called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. The secretary stated that adequate notice of the meeting=s date, time and place had been provided to the public pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act (N.J.S.A. 10:4-4, et seq.) By e-mailing to media, posting on the Township bulletin board and filing with the Town Clerk.

 

The Board proceeded with the first order of business.

 

First order of business: June Meeting Minutes

The June minutes were unanimously approved; motion by John Jackson; second by Angela Cook.

 

Second order of business: Sanitarian=s Report

The board members received the monthly reports for June, July and August 2006.  Sharon Martens reviewed the substance of the report for the Board.

 

Third order of business: Health Officer=s Report

The board members received the monthly reports for June, July and August 2006.  Sharon Martens reviewed the substance of the report for the Board.

 

Fourth order of business: Old Business

Medical Reserve Corps - Dr. Coumbis spoke with Carlie Smith, President, Cranbury Fire Company and Charlie does not have a problem with the Medical Reserve Corp. in Cranbury.  Dr. Coumbis has a list of physicians for the surrounding areas, it is 98% finished. Dr. Coumbis made a motion to support the Medical Res. Corp. and to make a recommendation to the Township Committee.   Ms. Cook seconds the motion and the committee agreed.  Bernice will speak with Pari Stave, Township Committee member to have it heard at the Sept. 25, 2006 township meeting.

 

Senior projects for Fall and Joint projects with Four Seasons - Angela Cook will follow up with Hal Rourke, Chairman of the Activities Committee and let us know next month.

 


Robert Wood Johnson Programs and Children projects for 2006-2007 school year - Cheryl Coyle and Angels Cook will find out and let us know next month.

 

Fifth order of Business:

Final Adoption of Pet Waste Ordinance # BOH 09-06-01 - Ed Konin noted that there was a typo error in the newspaper publication. First motion was made by  John Jackson; second by Angela Cook.  The vote was unanimous in favor of adoption.

 

Board of Health Web-site - Bernice Shapiro noted that the Board of Health web-site on the Township web-site was approved and the committee can start posting information.  Please send info. to Dawn Maisano and I=ll post it on the web.

 

Fall vaccines - No new information yet.  Sharon Martens will get the dates from Jessica Smit, BOH Officer.  John Coumbis said that he=d like to see it open to children.  However, the county doesn=t vaccinate children under 18 years of age.

 

Rabies vaccines - No new information yet.  Sharon Martens will get the dates from  Jessica Smit, BOH Officer.

 

In addition, recommendation and discussion by various members of the board where raised pertaining to the focus and direction of the board in regard to projects, there was consensus that we all focus efforts on one major project at a time as opposed to various projects. First project to get full attention and focus is the medical corps project. More information will be provided at next board of health meeting in October.

 

Public Forun: The Chair opened the public forum.  Bill Bauder asked about the Invisible Fence and if anyone had looked into it.  Ed Konin had said that he had not and would have information for him next month.

 

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:55pm.
